Three ways west
- Helicopter (4-7 hrs): $299-499 per person, picked up at your Strip hotel, rim landing at the West Rim with the champagne toast. Nothing else comes close for impact.
- Coach tour (about 14 hrs): $85-120 per person, comfortable bus, running commentary, and photo stops that include Hoover Dam and the overlooks. The value play.
- Self-drive: two hours 45 minutes each way to the West Rim; you roam free, nothing eats into the car time — but whoever drives sees the least of it
What the helicopter is really like
It splits in two: the neon Strip passes below first, then the canyon descent to the rim. The landing is short (around 30 minutes) but the flying is the point. Seating is assigned by weight — declare your honest weight when booking.
Who should buy which
Blowing the budget once: helicopter. Families with children under eight: the bus (some operators have helicopter age minimums from 4). A solo traveler watching every dollar: drive it, leaving at sunrise to dodge traffic.
